The flow reaches a speed of 3 knots at springs. Conditions can be rough off Port Eynon Point. The west-going flow sweeps around Oxwich Bay, turning south-east at the point, where it meets the main west-going flow, causing turbulence.

An area of rough water can form at Whiteford point when the west going tide meets wind from the west or south.
