Rapness Sound: High water is 2 hours and 5 minutes before high water at Wick
Pierowall Road: Pierowall Road is the area south of Papa Sound, from the passage south of Papa Westray to the Bay of Pierowall. Streams are weak.
Weatherness Sound: The north north-east going stream begins at 1 hours and 55 minutes after high water at Aberdeen. The south south-west going stream begins at 4 hours and 5 minutes before high water at Aberdeen. The flow reaches a speed of 4 knots at springs. Other sources suggest that the tide here and north of Fers Ness runs east for 4 hours and west for 8 hours, with the south south-west going stream starting at 5 hours and 30 minutes after high water Aberdeen. All the channels around Faray and the Holm of Faray flow swiftly and may have rough water. Lavey Sound dries to 1.6 m.
Wart Holm: The east south-east going stream begins at 4 hours and 30 minutes after high water at Aberdeen. The west north-west going stream begins at 1 hours and 50 minutes before high water at Aberdeen. The flow reaches a speed of 3 knots at springs. Eddies and tide rips may extend 2-3 miles west-north west from Wart Holm between 4 hours and 45 minutes and 5 hours and 45 after hight water at Aberdeen. The flow is weaker inshore of Wart Holm.
Bay of Tuquoy and Bay of Tafts, Westray: Tidal streams are weak within these bays.
West coast of Westray: Between Noup Head and Inga Ness, the flow is continuously south along the coastline due to an eddy forming behind Inga Ness during the north-west going stream.
Noup Head to Inga Ness: The south-east going stream begins at 3 hours and 55 minutes after high water at Aberdeen. The north-west going stream begins at 2 hours and 20 minutes before high water at Aberdeen. The flow reaches a speed of 5 knots at springs. A race forms off Noup Head and there may also be a race at Inga Ness.
Noup Head to The Nev: The east going stream begins at 3 hours and 55 minutes after high water at Aberdeen. The west going stream begins at 2 hours and 20 minutes before high water at Aberdeen. The east going stream reaches a speed of 1.5 knots at springs. The west going stream reaches a speed of 2 knots at springs. The east-going stream is weak west of The Nev. The west going stream becomes stronger to the west of Bow Head, reaching around 2 knots at Noup Head. A race forms at Noup Head.
Bow Head and The Nev: The east north-east going stream begins at 3 hours and 55 minutes after high water at Aberdeen. The west south-west going stream begins at 2 hours and 20 minutes before high water at Aberdeen. The east north-east going stream reaches a speed of 5 knots at springs. The west south-west going stream reaches a speed of 1 knots at springs. The east-going flow is strong over the drying rocks to the north of the Head. This stream continues across the north entrance to Papa Sound, splitting near the coast of Papa Westray. An overfall forms at Bow Head.
Papa Sound at Holm of Aikerness: The north going stream begins at 2 hours and 20 minutes before high water at Aberdeen. The south going stream begins at 4 hours and 5 minutes after high water at Aberdeen. The flow reaches a speed of 3 knots at springs. A violent tide race, known as 'The Rost' forms east of the Holm of Aikerness. Away from the Holm of Aikerness the streams are weak.
North west coast of Papa Westray: Due to an eddy forming behind Mull Head, the flow along the west coast of the northern part of Papa Westray runs continuously northwards.
Mull Head: The east going stream begins at 1 hours and 55 minutes after high water at Aberdeen. The west going stream begins at 4 hours and 5 minutes before high water at Aberdeen. The flow reaches a speed of 6 knots at springs. A race forms east and north of the Head with an easterly wind. On the west-going stream, a race known as 'The Bore Rost' forms soon after the tide turns. This race often leaves an area of smoother water close inshore.
North East coast of Papa Westray: The tidal stream here flows north north-west starting 5 hours and 20 minutes after high water at Aberdeen reaching a maximum speed of 1.3 knots at springs. The stream runs for around 9 hours. There is little or no south-going stream due to an eddy forming behind Mull Head.

Westray, Rapness: (HY 511 408) g Space to park at the ferry pier. Likely easier to get in at the beach at the head of the bay where fishing boats are hauled out.
Westray, Bay of Tuquoy: (HY 452 451) g Drop boats at rough track off road near where the road leaves the shoreline. Small gravel area with space to park just to the north. The carry across the beach will be a long one at low tide. The Ness of Tuquoy is likely a better option.
Westray, Ness of Tuqouy: (HY 459 437) g Small parking area at end of road by the sea.
Westray, Grobust: (HY 427 494) g Small parking space at end of public road, 150m from here to the beach.
